He doesnt like be swaddled, wearing full length clothes, etc. He turns 12 months in two weeks, and he will still sleep in it occasionally. We put our son in a nest between us at 3 months old - one that my SOs mother made. Google "baby nests" and you will find these interesting creatures. It kind of hugs them so I think it helps them feel secure. She also had really bad reflux as a baby and with a crib wedge she would just slide down and the dockatot prevented that. She will be sleeping with one leg up and over. She’s been using it like a body pillow for oh so long. I know it’s not marketed as a safe sleep but since we had the owlet which would alert us if she stopped breathing I wasn’t worried. Last month we stayed at a hotel and we just put it on a blanket next to the bed and she slept great. She’s now in a dockatot grand since she’s almost 16 months. One thing I continue to like about the dockatot is my little sees it as her bed, so when we go stay anywhere it’s easy to bring and then it’s familiar to her. I also paired it was an owlet- another overly priced baby item. Not in the majority here but I loved/love our dockatot. I don't know who bought it, but it was not money well spent. A pillow would have sufficed for this purpose. It got the most use when it was propped up in my rolling bassinet with my son "sitting" propped against it while I rolled the bassinet up and down the hall going "weeeee". He was fine to be put practically anywhere, including just on the floor. My kid liked it as much as he liked anything. (4) If your baby is long/tall, it only has a short life span of being useful. Without knowing what your baby's personality is like and trying cheap/free options first, it seems most likely to be an expense that didn't need to be made. Or maybe your kid will refuse to be put anywhere and you'll have a Velcro-baby strapped to you at all times. You could put them on any flat foam or fluffy mat. (3) As a "comfy place to set baby down", it's just a foam mat. My son was great swaddled, flat on his back, in a bassinet. (2) Your baby might sleep fine without it. If you want to ignore the safe-sleep-guidelines, no judgement, but the dock-a-tot and similar items aren't the first ways I'd go about that given they provide a foam ridge that baby could get their nose stuck in. I genuinely wouldn't worry about getting one unless you feel a need to once this kid arrives.
